Why a Lifebook?

When I was a child, there was a film I loved – a story about a magician who went, every single day, to write in his book. And as he wrote, what he wrote became alive. The film had two layers folded into one: his story of writing, and the story his writing brought into being. I don't know exactly why, but that image stayed with me all these years. Maybe because I've always loved books – not just reading them, but the quiet, private magic of a book as a place where something can become real.

That's part of why I love the idea of a Lifebook so much. Not a vision board you make once and hang on a wall – but a book. Something you write into slowly, with intention. You choose the colours, the style, the images that speak to you – you build the frame for your vision first. And then you begin to fill it. You grow it.

Isn't that a bit like growing a garden? You plant the seeds, you tend it patiently, and then, in time, you get to enjoy what blooms – sometimes different from what you imagined, sometimes even more beautiful than you dared to dream.

I've noticed that the very act of creating a vision – even just sitting quietly and thinking about what I truly want in my life before I ever put anything on the page – already brings a kind of clarity. And when I forget, when life gets loud and I lose the thread, I take my book out and I remember. What I love. What matters to me. What my vision actually is.

You can make one Lifebook for your whole life, or a new one every year, or simply whenever it feels right. The vision keeps growing, the way you do.

I love my Lifebook. I love writing my story alive, page by page – even when life curls in directions I never expected, even when it surprises me and my vision shifts along with it. And that's exactly what I love about a book, over a fixed vision board: there's room for that. Pages left open to write, to glue something in, to draw. Space for the unexpected. Space for the curves.

It can become just as straight, or just as winding, as your own life turns out to be. Unique – just like you.
